Job Summary:

The Accounting Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations for the fitness company, including financial reporting, budgeting, payroll oversight, cash flow management, internal controls, and compliance. This role ensures the accuracy of financial records while supporting strategic decision-making and operational efficiency across gym locations, fitness studios, wellness programs, and related business units.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and experienced in multi-location accounting within the fitness, wellness, hospitality, or service industries.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Monitor company cash flow, financial performance, and profitability metrics.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for executive leadership.
  • Process and manage Accounts payable

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Coordinate audits and work with external accountants and tax professionals.
  • Monitor and improve accounting systems and financial workflows.
  • Maintain proper documentation and record retention practices.

Payroll Oversight

  • Collaborate with HR regarding compensation, benefits, and payroll compliance.

Operational & Strategic Support

  • Partner with operations leadership to evaluate club/studio performance and operational KPIs.
  • Analyze labor costs, membership trends, and profitability by location or department.
  • Provide financial recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Assist leadership with strategic planning and business decision-making

  • Experience in fitness, wellness, hospitality, retail, or multi-location service businesses preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience managing payroll and budgeting processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
