General Engineer

Position Overview

The General Engineer will provide technical engineering support to help LBVAHCS plan, review, coordinate, and execute facility projects safely and effectively. This role will strengthen project delivery by reviewing drawings and specifications, identifying technical issues early, supporting code compliance, and coordinating with VA staff, contractors, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, and project documents
  • Provide technical support for construction, renovation, maintenance, and facility improvement projects
  • Support field inspections, issue resolution, project planning, and technical coordination
  • Evaluate work for compliance with applicable building, fire, safety, accessibility, and healthcare facility standards
  • Coordinate with VA staff, contractors, vendors, Contracting Officers, and management officials

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of General Engineer experience
  • Healthcare, federal facility, or medical center project experience preferred

Required Skills

  • Engineering design review, technical analysis, and construction coordination
  • Knowledge of NFPA, ICC, ABAAS, fire/life safety, and facility code requirements
  • Strong written communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder coordination skills

Certification Requirement

  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred

Clearance Requirement

  • VA background investigation / Public Trust
