General Accountant - Role Summary
The General Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and operational accounting activities across multiple entities. This role ensures accurate financial records, supports audits, and partners with cross-functional teams to maintain strong controls and efficient processes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & General Accounting (50%)
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Maintain schedules for prepaids, fixed assets, leases, and depreciation
  • Perform bank reconciliations and support monthly/quarterly close
  • Prepare financial statements and consolidated reporting packages
  • Support internal/external audits and maintain documentation/procedures
  • Analyze SG&A, budgets, and variances; assist with management reporting
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Support tax, KYC, and internal control activities
  • Provide guidance to junior staff and assist with team coverage

Operational Accounting (50%)
  • Manage ETRM-related settlements (AP/AR) and invoice processing
  • Reconcile system interfaces and maintain data integrity
  • Support commodity accounting, including inventory and transaction tie-outs
  • Assist with monthly close for operational entities
  • Maintain procedures and internal controls for settlements and gross margin
  • Partner with commercial teams to ensure accurate trade capture
  • Monitor and process commodity settlements
  • Maintain master data (contracts, counterparties) in trading systems
  • Support financial disclosures and tax compliance (sales/use, property tax)
  • Act as a key contact for operational audits

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of general accounting experience
  • Strong Excel and MS Office skills
  • Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Knowledge of internal controls and audit processes
  • Experience with Great Plains, SAP Concur, or ETRM systems is a plus
