Sales Support Engineer

Specialty Coating Systems is seeking a Sales Support Engineer to support technical sales and customer applications. This role is well-suited for recent graduates or candidates with experience and offers a path into sales, engineering or marketing.

SCS brings more than 55 years of experience in conformal coating technologies, supporting critical applications across medical, electronics, transportation, aerospace and defense industries. With 21 facilities across the Americas, Europe and Asia, SCS provides coating solutions and services that support technologies used in demanding, real-world environments.

Role overview:

  • Provide technical sales support within a defined region across the Americas
  • Work with Territory Sales Managers and engineering teams to support new and existing customer applications
  • Assist in developing new business opportunities and engaging with customers
  • Coordinate application development activities with internal teams and customers
  • Support the sales process from initial inquiry through application development
  • Travel within the region and to SCS facilities, trade shows and customer sites as needed
  • Gain experience in a developmental role with pathways into sales, engineering or marketing

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Supports achieving or exceeding supported territory's sales forecast and budget.
  • Functions as a Parylene applications consultant for pending new and existing customers. Present in the coating facility to manage the transition of the customer's application requirements to engineering.
  • Assists the mobilization of the necessary resources (materials, personnel, equipment, etc.) to support successful application of SCS' products on the customer's product(s).
  • Participates in initial screening of incoming sales leads received by phone, email, trade shows, etc. Helps identify applicable contacts at targeted customers.
  • Qualifies, packages and then uploads new opportunity leads for hand off to the TSM.
  • Supports and assists marketing activities (trade shows, webinars, etc.) on an as-needed basis.
  • In support of the TSM, develops a strong partnership with marketing for understanding customer needs, defining product/service offering and means to establish contacts at new customers.
  • Supports sub-vertical account penetration strategy with TSM and Marketing Team.
  • Stays up-to-date of changes and developments in the field through training, reading, researching, classes and seminars, and in discussions with other SCS departments.
  • Develops technical understanding of the business, which allows them to support resolution of field problems and to become a resource for customer's needs.
  • Professionally represents SCS values, products, services and capabilities. Supports business interactions using ethical business practices.
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

Additional functions and responsibilities:

  • Assists in hosting potential customers at the applicable coating center
  • Learns, uses and maintains SCS' lead management system: Opportunity Tracking Database (OTD).
  • Adheres to plant and corporate safety policies.
  • Follows guidelines in Company Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Supports content for reports, business correspondence and sales updates to executive staff.
  • May assist in other areas or perform other duties as required by fluctuating business needs.
  • Travel in region and SCS' facilities is estimated at up to 25% of time.

Education, certificates, licenses, registrations and/or experience: Bachelor's degree in a Technical, Business or Marketing major (technical discipline strongly preferred); or a technical (Associates) degree and two or more years of related work experience in a sales or marketing capacity, preferably in a technical environment.

Maintain a valid vehicle driver's license in U.S.

Will need to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport if international travel is required.
