What Does a Sales Intern Do?

A sales intern assists sales professionals by performing entry-level duties. If they are interning for a company that does inside sales, they may do cold calls, email outreach campaigns, or online video calls to reach prospective customers. Sales interns are frequently hired as part of marketing teams and by advertising agencies. They are expected to work as part of a team while earning valuable career experience and learning job skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sales Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Intern, you typically need strong communication skills, a basic understanding of sales principles, and enrollment in or completion of a relevant degree program. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce and proficiency in productivity tools such as Microsoft Office are often expected. Initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to learn set standout interns apart in dynamic sales environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for building client relationships, supporting sales teams, and developing foundational expertise for future career growth.

What are some common challenges faced by Sales Interns during their internship?

Sales Interns often encounter challenges such as quickly learning about the company's products or services, adapting to fast-paced environments, and handling initial rejections from potential clients. Additionally, they may need to balance administrative tasks with active sales outreach, all while building effective communication skills. These challenges are valuable learning experiences that help interns develop resilience, adaptability, and a deeper understanding of the sales process.

Job description

Make Lives Better, Build Your Future: Join The Heritage at Legacy as a Sales Intern!

Looking for a summer opportunity that gives you real-world experience-not just busy work?

Heritage Communities is hiring a Sales Intern for the summer (May-August, with some flexibility). This is a hands-on opportunity to learn how relationship-driven sales works in a meaningful industry that impacts people's lives every day.

As a Sales Intern, you will gain exposure to:

  • The full sales cycle - from first inquiry to move-in
  • Relationship-building with prospective residents and families
  • Community outreach, events, and networking
  • CRM systems and sales strategy in action
  • How marketing and sales work together to drive results

This role is designed to help you build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and better understand how to connect with people in a professional setting.

If you're someone who enjoys meeting new people, learning by doing, and being part of a supportive team-we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do:

As our Sales Intern, you will support our sales and marketing efforts, gaining hands-on experience in relationship-building and community growth by:

  • Assisting the Director of Sales in achieving occupancy goals and executing strategic sales milestones.
  • Driving lead engagement through participation in the full sales lifecycle, including conducting tours, home visits, and personalized follow-up via phone and email.
  • Creating a lasting first impression by greeting prospective residents and families with warmth and professionalism, ensuring they feel welcomed from the moment they arrive.
  • Executing outreach and events by helping plan, coordinate, and lead community engagement activities and marketing initiatives.
  • Managing sales operations through precise data entry in the CRM, maintaining organized records, and preparing marketing materials or presentations.
  • Collaborating on the move-in experience to support new residents as they transition into the community, ensuring a seamless and positive start to their journey with us.
