This is a high-impact leadership role at the intersection of engineering execution, team development, and modern AI-driven software delivery. You will lead a small, high-performing team of engineers while actively contributing to product development and technical decision-making. The role blends people leadership with hands-on engineering, requiring you to shape team dynamics, ensure delivery excellence, and foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. You will also play a key role in evolving how engineering work is delivered through automation and agentic workflows, helping teams move faster while maintaining strong reliability and quality standards. Operating in a fully remote, global environment, you will collaborate across product and engineering functions while driving both technical and organizational maturity. This position is ideal for a senior engineer-turned-leader who thrives in autonomy, systems thinking, and building high-trust teams.

Accountabilities:

  • Balance hands-on engineering work with leadership responsibilities, spending part of your time actively contributing to product development.
  • Own hiring, onboarding, and continuous development of engineers within your team, supporting both performance and career growth.
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and mentorship to help engineers improve and reach their full potential.
  • Drive team planning, prioritization, and execution with a strong focus on delivery efficiency and product outcomes.
  • Act as the primary spokesperson for the team, ensuring alignment with stakeholders and clear communication of progress and challenges.
  • Define and implement modern engineering workflows using AI and agentic systems to improve speed, quality, and scalability of delivery.
  • Introduce verification mechanisms such as testing, evaluation, and guardrails to ensure reliable and secure software systems.
  • Collaborate across teams to improve engineering processes, system design, and organizational effectiveness.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience managing at least 2-5 engineers with formal responsibility for performance and delivery.
  • Strong backend engineering background with experience in production systems (Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming is a plus).
  • Demonstrated ability to ship secure, scalable, and reliable software systems in complex environments.
  • Experience designing or adopting automation, workflow orchestration, or agentic systems, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong systems thinking ability, including breaking down complex problems into clear specifications and executable plans.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to align engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership mindset with the ability to coach, inspire, and develop high-performing teams.
  • High level of ownership, autonomy, and execution focus in fast-paced environments.
  • Understanding of modern engineering best practices including testing, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Strong interest in AI-driven development workflows and automation tools.
  • Commitment to inclusive leadership, collaboration, and fostering healthy team culture.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote global work environment with asynchronous flexibility.
  • Competitive salary with equity/stock option opportunities.
  • Flexible working hours supporting work-life balance.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Mental health support and wellness programs.
  • Home office setup and equipment budget.
  • Learning and professional development budget.
  • Annual off-sites and team gatherings in international locations.
  • Strong autonomy, ownership, and impact-driven culture.
