A fabrication technician uses specialized equipment, such as metal welding or soldering tools, to build components for a variety of products, ranging from plane parts to fiberglass, or to assemble finished products, such as car engines or toys. As a fabrication technician, your duties are also to repair and provide maintenance on mechanical equipment, perform routine inspections of the tools and equipment, and train people on how to care for the machines. Qualifications for this job include a high school diploma, career experience working as a mechanic, and some job training or postsecondary work for highly technical fields. Attention to detail and organizational skills are beneficial to have for this job.
